Hydropower allocation wins best long-term investment award

| Press Release

Aquila Capital is delighted that ABP – the largest pension fund in the Netherlands – has won the Best Long-Term Investment award for its European hydro-electric power plant investments. The awards were organised by IPE sister publication Pensioen Pro and financial daily Het Financieele Dagblad (FD) and were presented in Amsterdam.

In July 2014, Dutch pension fund ABP’s asset manager APG Asset Management and leading alternative investments manager Aquila Capital formed a partnership to invest a targeted €500 million in the acquisition and development of European hydropower plants in one of the largest investments in this renewable energy sector.

Since then, the partnership has seen the acquisition of Norsk Grønnkraft AS, an operator of 33 small-scale facilities in Norway and the acquisition of a stake in Norwegian plant operator Tinfos AS.

Oldrik Verloop, Co-Head of Hydropower at Aquila Capital said: “We are delighted that ABP’s philosophy towards sustainable investments and long-term return generating assets in infrastructure is recognised by its peers with this prestigious award. With our dedicated hydropower investment team, we are building a diversified portfolio of hydro assets for ABP and their co-investors and believe the complementary nature of the asset class fits well with institutional investors.
